BRIEF REPORT ON THE BALLOON COOKER／バルーンクッカーに関する小レポート

Introduction／はじめに：
This is a brief update on the status of the balloon solar cookers. Since delivery, the cookers have been in SCI office in Nairobi. There were several months this year that were cloudy and rainy thus no trials were possible. As the skies lighted up, several trials have been made at every occasion possible. We have tried to share these with the coordinators of SCJ as much as possible.／バルーンタイプのソーラークッカーの最新状況について簡単にお知らせします。バルーンクッカーを持ってきてもらってから、SCIナイロビのオフィスにクッカーを置いてあります。今年は、数ヶ月間曇りや雨の時があり、フィールドテストができませんでした。晴れ間が広がった時、何回かのテストを機会ある限り行ってきました。私たちはこうしたテストの結果をSCJのコーディネーターとできるだけ共有してきました。
Progress／進展：
• SCI EARO designed and made durable stands for the small balloon cookers and are trying out a similar one for the bigger balloon cooker as shown in the picture.／SCIの東アフリカ地域オフィスで、小さいバルーンクッカーのための耐久性のある架台をデザインの上制作し、また、下記の写真に示したとおり、大きい方のクッカーにも同様のものを試作しています。
• The few trials we have had with the new stand has shown that either the cooking rack is too high as it has slowed the heating process  – it takes longer for water to boil.／新しい架台について私たちが行った何回かの実験で分かったことは、どちらの架台についても鍋置き台が高すぎて暖めるのに時間がかかることでした。例えば、水を沸かすのに時間が余計にかかってしまいます。
• One balloon cooker and stand has been delivered to our project site in Nyakach for further field tests while the big one has been delivered to the Child Care center in Kajiado. In two recent demonstrations, water was boiled in reasonable time. The demonstration proved to all that solar can fry the flat bread called chapati. The observers were very excited their comments included／バルーンクッカーと架台の一組は、ニャカチにある私たちのプロジェクトの現場に運ばれさらなるフィールドテストが行われました。一方、大きいクッカーの方は、カジアドにあるチャイルド・ケア・センターに運ばれました。２つの最近のフィールドテストでは、水は適当な時間内に沸かすことができ、太陽熱でチャパティと呼ばれる平らなパンを揚げることができることが、参加者全員に対して証明できました。観察者たちはとても興奮していましたが、次のようなコメントを挙げています：
– Fears of security as it cannot be left outside the house.／家の外に置いたままにできないので、安全面での不安がある。
– Setting up requires more than two people.／セットアップに２人以上必要。
– It need one with good knowledge of the features of the cooker as it has two air – inlets, one can send time pumping air into it all the time.／クッカーには２つの空気の注入口があるので、クッカーの特徴をよく把握している人が一人必要。それによって、その人がバルーンへの空気注入について常に対応できることになる。
– Tracking the sun when it is not overhead.／太陽が頭上に無い時に、太陽の方向にクッカーを合わせることが必要。
– The cooker is very heavy.／クッカーがとても重い。
– To use it for the institution there is need for a larger cooking pot.／組織向けにクッカーを使うには、より大きな料理用鍋が必要。
– It is delicate and so it cannot be moved all the time.／繊細なので、常には移動させることができない。
– It needs a large storage area.／大きな保管場所が必要。
– Damage to the eyes.／目を傷めてしまう。
Challenges／課題： 
• The two smaller balloon cooker have holes and attempts to repair have not been very successful (So we need to know what kind of adhesive to use).／２つの小型のバルーンクッカーには穴が空いてしまっており、修繕の試みはうまくいっていない。（従って、どんな接着剤を使ったらよいのか知る必要がある）。
