1.3 Comments from SCI staff／ＳＣＩのスタッフからのコメント：
The cookers are good looking and given a good weather, they can cook most Kenyan foods. However the following observations were also made by SCI offices and volunteers at the regional office／クッカーは見かけがよく、天気さえ良ければケニアのほとんどの料理を調理できるだろう。しかし、ＳＣＩオフィスや地域オフィスのボランティアからは、次の見識も提起された：
• The first time the high metal platform took one and half hours and 4 young men to set up since there is no manual for setting it up. It was trial and error. In addition this kind of stand looks costly and a rough estimated was placed at 4,000/= Shillings. This therefore makes it unaffordable, even before you talk of the cooker itself.／高位置架台（中條先生が持参されたもの）の一番最初の設置には、設置のためのマニュアルがなかったため、試行錯誤の結果、若い男性４人がかりで１時間半かかった。加えて、このような架台は高価で、概算でも4000シリングはすると思われる。したがって、クッカー本体をどうこう言う前に、この架台を使うとプランが非現実的なものとなってしまうだろう。（←三戸の方から、「その架台の利用は必須ではない」との点を既に伝えてあります）
• The biggest balloon cooker is heavy hence issues with moving it to a sunny place in addition to storage.／一番大きなバルーンクッカーは重く、太陽のある場所に移動させたり保管するのに問題がある。
• The balloon cookers require at least 4 different components before one can use them, the stand, the pump, the metal rod to hang across the cooker and this makes it less attractive when compared to other solar cookers. In other words, they are difficult set up for use.／バルーンクッカーは、次の４つの部品が使用に最低限必要：架台、ポンプ、クッカーを横断して引っ掛ける金属製の棒、そして（クッカー本体）。他のソーラークッカーに比べこの点は見劣りする。言い換えれば、使用のための設置が困難。
• If all the cookers require a stand then the issue of storage of the stands will be major not to mention the issue of folding up the balloon after removal of air.／もしすべてのクッカーで架台が必要なのであれば、バルーンの空気を抜いてたたむという課題に加えて、架台の保管は大きな課題となる。
• If it is for institutional use, the issue of pot / cooking vessel capacity is to be addressed. Most institutions cook for between 60 – 500 children / people everyday. Most Kenyan foods are often cooked in large quantities to cater for staff as well as occasional visitors.／もし大きな組織で使うのであれば、鍋や調理容器の容量に係る問題が指摘できる。多くの組織は６０～５００分の子供や人の調理を毎日行う。多くのケニア料理は、しばしば大量に調理され、スタッフや突然現れる訪問者のために準備される。
• Vulnerability to damage: Thorny places, rats chewing up the balloon, any cut to the balloon would render the cooker useless.／損傷に弱い：とげがあるような場所や、ネズミがバルーンを噛む場所でバルーンが切れてしまうとクッカーが使えなくなってしまう。
• The availability and affordability of the pumps is also an issue to be addressed in addition to pump maintenance. This is not to question the time taken by the pump attendant to fill up the big cooker with enough air.／ポンプが手に入るか、買える価格にあるかも、ポンプの維持管理の問題に加えて課題。大きなクッカーに、附属ポンプで空気を十分に入れるのに時間がかかることも問題。
• On the funny side, Kenyan urban kids are used to bouncing castles, during fairs, outings by parents and many children rushed to our cooker thinking it was one of them!／面白い点として、ケニアの都会の子供は、イベント中に設置される、ゴム風船のようなもので出来たお城（bouncing castles）に親に連れて行かれるのに慣れており、多くの子供が、バルーンクッカーがその一つだと思って駆け寄ってきたことがある！（注釈：駆け寄ってきて危険、というニュアンスではなく、注目を浴びやすい性質があった、という意味での指摘と思われます（三戸））
• Should the cook want to try or turn the food, it is difficult to reach the center where the cooking vessel is – especially the big one.／試食をしたり食材をひっくり返すのに、調理鍋が置いてあるクッカーの中央部にはなかなか手が届きにくい。特に大きなクッカーではそう。
• Performance and acceptability will only be fully determined after testing all Kenyan common foods during optimal weather conditions.／天候がよい状況となり、ケニアの主要な料理がすべてテストされて初めて、性能や人々に受け入れられるかが最終的に判断されることとなるだろう。
1.4 Comments by observes／クッカーを見た人からのコメント：
• This type of cookers look good – what is the cost? What if it is punctured?／このタイプのクッカーは見掛けがよい。いくらか？パンクしたときはどうなるのか？
• This does not appear practical to a woman who just wants to cook!／一人の女性が調理をしたいときには、使いやすいようには見えない。
• It seems that storage would be a problem with this one.／保管場所が問題になるだろう。
• Where would one set it up?／どこに設置すればいいのか？
• Does it have harmful health effects, especially on the eyes?／これは体に悪影響はないのか、特に目に対してはどうか？
2.1 Parabolic cookers／パラボラ式クッカー：
The two parabolic cookers have been everyone’s favorites the staff and other observes. The bigger one has an added advantage in that it can have two pots cooking at the same time, however working on the principle of focusing the light to a point does the other pot cook by heat conducted from the pot at the focal point? We are yet to try out cooking food in two pots successfully. The main question with it is the cost and availability of the reflectors.／パラボラクッカー２台は、スタッフや他の見物人みんなのお気に入りである。大きい方のものは鍋を２つ同時に置けるのがさらなる利点だ。しかし、太陽光を焦点に合わせるという原理に沿うと、一つの鍋に焦点が合った際にもう一つの鍋は熱がちゃんと届くのか？今のところ、まだ２つの鍋を置いての調理を成功していない。一番の課題は、このクッカーの値段と反射板の入手しやすさだ。
The baby parabolic is very handy and has been taken everywhere mentioned above. It is however dismissed as a demonstrations kit for someone not doing serious cooking in terms of volume. It works perfectly with small quantities but is vulnerable to strong winds. The cost and since its is low the safety of food from domestic animals like dogs are likely to raise issues.／小型のパラボラはとても手軽で上述したどこにも持参された。しかし、調理できる量が多くないため、展示キットとして一部の人からは見放されている。少量の調理なら完璧に機能するが強風には弱い。値段の点と、調理の位置が低いことから料理が犬などの家畜に食べられてしまうおそれがある点が懸念として提起できるだろう。
3.1 Other related activities／他の関連活動
• SCI field staff in two dissimilar areas have been asked to source for two diploma or graduate part time positions to undertake the serious field tests, SCI (EA), would like to do this continually during the optimal season.／現地実験をきちんと行うため、２箇所の異なる場所で、学位をもっているか、卒業資格のあるパートタイムのポジションのＳＣＩ現地スタッフ２名を募集している。調理に適した季節の間、ＳＣＩ（ＥＡ）としては実験を継続したい。
• It is planned that SCI (EA), Trainer will have to travel to the two sites, to help orient the two as well as staff on setting up and using the balloon cookers.／ＳＣＩ（ＥＡ）の指導員が２箇所を訪問し、上記２名やＳＣＩのスタッフがバルーンクッカーを設置し使用するのを支援する必要があると考えている。
• SCI Regional Director is currently undertaking to put up a document (to be shared with SCJ) on the objective of the tests and the type of acceptable tests and identifying the standards already existing in the solar cooking milieu.／ＳＣＩ地域代表は現在文書を取りまとめ中で、ＳＣＪにも提供される予定。内容は、クッカー試験の目的、実験の種類、ソーラークッキングの分野で既に存在する「標準」との関係の分析。
• SCI (EA) highlighted the MOU to SCI Board of Directors in the May Board meeting and the Board endorsed the partnership. In addition, the current issue of the SuNews a 4,000+ a publication geared towards, information exchange and education within East Africa and beyond featured the origin of this partnership.／ＳＣＩ（ＥＡ）は、５月に行われたＳＣＩ理事会で（ＳＣＪとの）同意書について理事に報告し、理事会で連携について了承された。加えて、4000部以上発行されているSuNewsにおいて、東アフリカや周辺地域における情報交換や教育の状況に加え、この連携の起源についても取り扱った。
Conclusion／まとめ
SCI (EA), feels privileged to be working with a new type of cooker and would welcome any other type. In the western region of the country we are planning to set up a resource center by February 2008 and would like to display and demonstrate all types of solar cookers existing in the world.／ＳＣＩ（ＥＡ）は、新しいタイプのクッカーについて取組が出来るのを名誉に感じている。と同時に、他のタイプのクッカーについても歓迎する。ケニア西部において、2008年２月までにリソースセンターを立ち上げる予定であり、世界に存在しているすべての種類のソーラークッカーを展示・実演したいと考えている。
