2007 Activities by the Solar Cooker Japan／ソーラークッカー・ジャパンの2007年の活動

The Solar Cooker Japan (SCJ) is an organization established voluntarily by some Japanese from various fields such as a public servant, scholars, artists, students, and solar cooker lovers.／ソーラークッカー・ジャパン（SCJ）は自主的に立ち上がった組織で、公務員や学者、芸術家や学生、ソーラークッカー愛好者といった各種分野の日本人に支えられています。

Considering the importance of stopping deforestation in Africa and providing alternative cooking tools for especially impoverished people, we set up SCJ in February of 2007 and started to distribute information on solar cookers to African countries such as Kenya and Rwanda. Additionally, we are conducting a feasibility study on a new balloon type solar cooker, which was invented in Japan and the inventor is a member of SCJ. We have created a partnership with the Solar Cookers International East African Branch (SCIEA) located in Nairobi, and they are conducting the study in order to find out the applicability of the new cooker to eastern African countries.／アフリカにおいて森林減少を止めることの重要性に鑑み、また、特に貧しい人々に代替の調理器具を提供するため、私たちは2007年２月にSCJを設立し、ケニヤやルワンダといったアフリカ諸国にソーラークッカーの情報を提供することを始めました。加えて、私たちは新しいタイプのバルーン式のソーラークッカーの実証実験を行っており、そのクッカーは日本で開発され、開発者はSCJのメンバーです。私たちは、ナイロビに位置しているソーラークッカーズ・インターナショナル東アフリカ支所（SCIEA）と提携することとし、彼らがその新しいクッカーの東アフリカ諸国での適合性を検証するため研究を行っています。

The followings are the key activities performed in 2007／次の点が2007年に実施された主要活動です：

February／２月：

– SCJ was established by several people from different fields. There is no strict membership rule and people contribute to the activities when they feel happy to join.／各種の分野の人々によってSCJが設立される。会員についての厳格なルールは無く、人々は参加したいときのみSCJの活動に貢献する。

March／３月：

– Some SCJ members visited SCI in Nairobi and exchanged information on the feasibility study idea. SCJ members also joined some events including Tokyo International Conference on African Development held at the United Nations Office at Nairobi for promotion of solar cookers with SCIEA.／SCJのメンバーの何人かがナイロビのSCIを訪れ、実証実験のアイディアについて情報交換。SCJのメンバーは他のイベントにも参加し、国連のナイロビ本部で開催されたアフリカ開発東京国際会議（TICAD）にも参加。SCIEAと供にソーラークッカーを紹介。

May／５月：

– Memorandum of Understanding between SCIEA and SCJ was produced for the feasibility study of the balloon cooker.／SCIEAとSCJの間で、バルーンクッカーについての覚書が取り交わされる。

Fall and winter／秋と冬：

– Feasibility study by SCIEA continued.／SCIEAによる実証実験を継続。

– Situation of solar cooker development in Rwanda was studied and the information was shared with SCIEA.／ソーラークッカーのルワンダでの開発・普及に関する現状を調査し、その結果をSCIEAとも共有。
